The Future is Where it's at

As I mentioned in the last post, Antique Square, the physical location, is no longer standing.  However, moving forward, do expect to see the resurrection of Antique Square in another form.  There are plans to move forward to continue to showcase antiquarian merchandise, advertisements, and promotions.  If you are a member of the in-world group, we will be utilizing the group again; as well as this blog.

We just need some time to collect ourselves, gather our thoughts, and restructure to be more effective as a grid-wide group for your patronage and advertising needs.

Stay tuned....

The Great Fire of 2012

It was with much deliberation and heartfelt reflection that the decision to close the physical space - the brick and mortar construction (ok, prims, sculpts, and mesh) - of Antique Square.  Antique Square opened in January to the moving in of shopkeepers and a soft opening for customers who were curious and who desired to walk the streets of the developing shopping district.  It was not long after that we held our first event, The Antiquated Love hunt; followed by the Spring Flower Festival, A Penny Saved, Fireworks shows, music events, the Home and Garden Expo, and SL9B.  We had fun, we achieved success, and we made friends.

Those were ultimately the goals of Antique Square when it was first derived seven months ago.  We also sought to shed a light on the growing, and always present, market for SecondLife antiques dealers.  We did that too.

The entire endeavor would not have been possible without the assistance, patronage, and support of all who rented, helped build, and visited our small corner of SL.  For that, I thank you all.  I would like to also extend a specific acknowledgement to Clover Windlow who was instrumental in devising and coordinating events, such as the Spring Flower Festival and notorious and popular Fireworks Extravaganzas!

On July 4, we held the last event on the grounds.  Unfortunately (or fortunately), there was a slight mishap and a fire ensued about half an hour into the fireworks show!  The roof of the waterfront pavilion was first to go; collapsing into the depths of water beneath.  Quickly, the trees burst into flames and spread to the structures, benches, and boardwalk.  At some point, the there was an explosion; which resulted in the upturning of the cobblestone paths.  At the end, nothing was left.  Our insurance company claimed that our policy did not extend to "all encompassing destructive fires".  But, alas, we had fun.  The fireworks show turned into a music and dance event to the theme of fire songs.  Dancing was had by all present.  As a side note, I must express that dancing on what was formerly a wall now acting as a surf board was quite the experience!

Fortunately, one of the guests, Ms. Lelani Carver, was able to capture the evenings festivities and destruction for posterity.

Antique Square Fireworks Extravaganza!

Please join us at Antique Square this Wednesday, the 4th of July, for a fireworks celebration unlike any you've seen in all your Second Life!  Mme. Mistletoe Ethaniel brings her pyrotechnic artistry to the pier for a show beginning at half past eight, Second Life Time, accompanied by patriotic musical selections.  Mme. Ethaniel promises this show will be the greatest and most explosive of her career, and assures the public that they will surely regret it if they are absent during this astounding spectacle!

Following the fireworks show, an informal outdoor ball is planned.

We do hope you will join us for this monumental occasion at Antique Square. Mark your calendars now, and we will see you on Wednesday night!

Antique Square and SL9B

Have you heard?  This year's celebration of Second Life's anniversary, SL9B, is run for residents, by residents.  Aptly, this year's theme is Community.

Thaddeus and I have sent in the paperwork to apply to have an exhibit for Antique Square at this exciting event, and for the past few days we've been hashing out our build plan.  I don't want to give away too many spoilers as to what we've got planned, but I will say that we plan to call the exhibit, "In the Good Old Summertime".  I'm hopeful that it will be get attention of people who may not otherwise have visited Antique Square before, and that it will provide the kind of unique and unforgettable experience they'll be talking about for a while to come.

But we could use some help from you.

One of the most fun aspects of SL Birthday events is finding the best freebies.  In addition to just being a great find, a freebie for our exhibit can be a great way to introduce your products to a wide audience.  It lets people know what your shop is about, and what kind of goods can be found at Antique Square.

If you're interested in contributing a freebie prize for the exhibit, please contact me (either as Mistletoe or as Clover) or Thaddeus.

Additionally, when the festival is on (the week starting of June 18th), we would love to have our own people present at the exhibit, in appropriate attire, making guests feel welcome as they stop by.  After all, the theme is Community, and we want people to see what a friendly and inclusive community we can be.

Want to sneak a look at the work in progress?  You'll have to ask me inworld.  Like I said, I don't want too many spoilers just yet!

Lovely Day for a Stroll...

Looking for a way to pass a fine spring afternoon, perhaps with friends or loved ones?

Come to Antique Square and enjoy one of our three new horse-drawn wagon rides!

The Red tour will take you up and down the Boardwalk, pausing at its north and south ends.

The Gold tour (my personal favorite) will take you into and around our beautiful Central Park.  This one's especially recommended for wooing your sweetheart.

Finally, the Blue tour will lead you around the main road and pause (and announce) each of our local shops and points of interest.  It's the longest of the three.

Each tour is drawn by a pair of horses, and seats up to seven avatars, and it doesn't cost one red linden.

To enjoy any or all of these tours, find the sign on the main pier with a picture of a pair of horses-- just like the picture you see here at this post.  Click it, select your tour, and when the wagon appears, sit at the driver's seat to be on your way!

This week, our theme was "Rain".  After all, April showers are supposed to bring May flowers...

Here's what you can find at Antique Square!

Clover's Kitchen brings you warm comfort food for a rainy day with this 6-prim Grilled Cheese Skillet.  The skillet features particle "grease splatter" effect, sizzling sounds, and steam; and offers a choice of melt-in-your-mouth grilled cheese sandwich (with or without bacon and/or tomato slices) with a click.

Also included with the Grilled Cheese Skillet is a prop cutting board, with knife and tomato slices, to enhance the decor in your kitchen.  The cutting board also has 6 prims.

Both pieces are No Mod|Copy|No Trans and can be had for a steal at Antique Square's "A Penny Saved" promotion!

Colette of Sweet Sorrows has built this lovely and relaxing pergola! Chat or cuddle and let it rain :-)

Stop by the Park to check out this lovely gazebo built by Tess of Spargel Antiques!

Look inside Nadeau Shoppe for this Antique Sunflower Rain Measurement device!

Giddyup!

People seemed to enjoy the wagon ride at the Spring Flower Festival so much, I've decided to add a regular horse-drawn wagon tour to the Square.  It starts right near the central pier, where you first rez in (it looks like the picture at the left).  Click on the signpost and choose "Guided Shop Tour" and kapoof, your wagon appears.  Hop on!

The wagon makes its way around the Square, pausing at each shop and announcing which shop it is.  I'm hopeful that this will not only make it even more fun and interactive at Antique Square, but also increase the exposure to shops.

Anyway try it out, and let me know what you think!

Thank-yous

The grounds have all been picked up, and Antique Square is back to its "normal" routine until the next event comes along.  But it would not be complete if I didn't take a moment to offer my deepest heartfelt thanks to those who had a hand in making the Spring Flower Festival such a success.

First, of course, to Thaddeus for not only hosting the event on his land (and everything that goes along with land ownership, like stream management and organizing set-up), but for all the hard work he did promoting the event and getting all of us on the same page and working together.  It was no small task and the whole event went much more smoothly because of your efforts.

To Bounce, for making the festive pennants and banners that brought so much light and color to the grounds.  He was one of the first people to say "I'll help!  What can I do?" and to me that deserves special recognition.

To Tess, who came up with a fantastic alternative to the seeming "necessary evil" that hunts have become.  Rather than just say, "Nah, let's not do that," she offered, "Let's do this instead."  And so, she suggested a bargain cart sale, which excited merchants and gave us and shoppers both something to really enjoy.  She also spent the night before the festival's opening putting out flowers in planters and boxes.

To Colette, who transformed the central park into a veritable fairgrounds.  People just didn't stop raving about how wonderful the park looked!  She also made the (free to copy!) red and pink floral arches seen in all the shop doorways.  And, she made and offered several prizes in the Balloon Game.

To our DJs, who kept our guests' toes tapping: PJ Zessinthal and Hoppy Easterling were both a big hit.  Symmetry Munro regrets not being able to make her set, due to unforeseen RL circumstances, but promises to make it up to us on another occasion.  Meanwhile, I offer her my best wishes.  An extra shout-out goes to PJ for the last-second use of her stream for the fireworks show, when Mistletoe's own was malfunctioning.

To every one of the merchants who rented carts, and advertisers who rented ad space on the wagon, I sincerely thank you.

And to everybody else whom I was too foolish and absent-minded to remember, the fault is my own for not doing so.

Thank you all, and I look forward to the next event!

Antiquated Love Hunt coming to an end

Yes, the Antiquated Love Hunt at Antique Square is coming to a close at midnight SLT on February 29 (tonight!).  The hunt was a huge success!  Our first hunt/event at the new Antique Square could not have gone better.

I want to take a moment to thank all of the wonderful and creative shopkeepers who created the fantastic top quality prizes for the guests.  I also want to thank all of the guests who came, hunted, shopped, and enjoyed the locale.  Some of you joined the in-world group and some are following the blog.  Please continue to come, shop, and enjoy the scene at Antique Square.  Keep your ears and eyes open for more forthcoming news about events, sales, hunts, and so much more!

Please, if you have not had time to hunt yet, or gotten to finish the hunt (and kept saying you were gonna do that), make sure to stop on by Antique Square soon!  I have no idea when each shopkeeper will take their items, nor do I know if they intend to make them freebies or sell them in-store.  But, best to be safe and try and find them before getting into the pickle of "shoula, coulda, woulda". :)

Coming next month, we're planning a fantastic Spring Flower Festival; coordinated by our very own shopkeeper Clover Windlow and being prepared by many of our fantastic shopkeepers!

Photos from the Fireworks!

River Kyomoon took some fantastic photos from Sunday night's fireworks show!

Thanks so much, River!

Fireworks tonight!

Just a reminder to not miss tonight's fireworks show at Antique Square's pier.  The show starts at 5:00 PM SLT, so make sure you arrive a little bit early to get good seats.  It's an all-ages show, no admission, no dress code (other than please be dressed thanks), and we hope to see you there!

In order to best enjoy the fireworks tonight:
  • Turn your Particles (in your Graphics settings) up to at least 1024.
  • Your Draw Distance doesn't need to be too high; between 64 and 96m will be plenty to see the show by.
  • Turn on your music stream!  There will be a selection of tunes to go with the fireworks
  • Stay back behind the ropes, a safe distance from the launchers.
  • Please refrain from screen-filling gestures or obtrusive particles during the show.
  • If the pyrotechnician receives 1000L in tips during the show, she will blow up a certain breedable type chicken at the finale.  If she receives 5000L in tips, she will blow up a half dozen certain breedable type chickens at the finale.

See you tonight at 5PM!

Fireworks Spectacular @ Antique Square

You read it right!  On February 26 at 5 PM SLT, we'll be having a fireworks spectacular!  The event will be hosted by our vintage performer of the night and your hostess, Mistletoe Ethaniel.

Ms. Ethaniel has been bringing a festival of lights to audiences for years in SL.  In order to bring you the best show possible, she works tirelessly to coordinate the various fireworks in her arsenal.  Once she achieves the pattern of "booms", as she calls them, Mistletoe works to locate and program a music show to enhance the experience.  So, her audience not only gets a great light show, but a great evening of music!  Some of the music that you can expect to hear includes sousa and rag.

So, come on over to Antique Sqaure; bring a friend, bring a posse, bring yourself!  Attire is required, but wear casual clothing for a night of lights and music under the stars February 26!

Welcome to Antique Square!

Welcome to Antique Square (And our shiny new blog).

Antique Square is a small shopping area set on a carefully arranged quarter sim parcel at Royal Tots. The shops and Peddlers trend toward the antique and vintage whether in furnishings, accessories or fabrics and textures. Modeled after a village square, visitors (and shoppers) can easily  examine and even try out the various styles and types of home and garden goods the shopkeepers offer.

This blog will help highlight new releases, special events, and occasionally the thoughts of the designers regarding a particular piece or project.

We look forward to seeing you on the Square.
