The Future is Where it's at

As I mentioned in the last post, Antique Square, the physical location, is no longer standing.  However, moving forward, do expect to see the resurrection of Antique Square in another form.  There are plans to move forward to continue to showcase antiquarian merchandise, advertisements, and promotions.  If you are a member of the in-world group, we will be utilizing the group again; as well as this blog.

We just need some time to collect ourselves, gather our thoughts, and restructure to be more effective as a grid-wide group for your patronage and advertising needs.

Stay tuned....

The Great Fire of 2012

It was with much deliberation and heartfelt reflection that the decision to close the physical space - the brick and mortar construction (ok, prims, sculpts, and mesh) - of Antique Square.  Antique Square opened in January to the moving in of shopkeepers and a soft opening for customers who were curious and who desired to walk the streets of the developing shopping district.  It was not long after that we held our first event, The Antiquated Love hunt; followed by the Spring Flower Festival, A Penny Saved, Fireworks shows, music events, the Home and Garden Expo, and SL9B.  We had fun, we achieved success, and we made friends.

Those were ultimately the goals of Antique Square when it was first derived seven months ago.  We also sought to shed a light on the growing, and always present, market for SecondLife antiques dealers.  We did that too.

The entire endeavor would not have been possible without the assistance, patronage, and support of all who rented, helped build, and visited our small corner of SL.  For that, I thank you all.  I would like to also extend a specific acknowledgement to Clover Windlow who was instrumental in devising and coordinating events, such as the Spring Flower Festival and notorious and popular Fireworks Extravaganzas!

On July 4, we held the last event on the grounds.  Unfortunately (or fortunately), there was a slight mishap and a fire ensued about half an hour into the fireworks show!  The roof of the waterfront pavilion was first to go; collapsing into the depths of water beneath.  Quickly, the trees burst into flames and spread to the structures, benches, and boardwalk.  At some point, the there was an explosion; which resulted in the upturning of the cobblestone paths.  At the end, nothing was left.  Our insurance company claimed that our policy did not extend to "all encompassing destructive fires".  But, alas, we had fun.  The fireworks show turned into a music and dance event to the theme of fire songs.  Dancing was had by all present.  As a side note, I must express that dancing on what was formerly a wall now acting as a surf board was quite the experience!

Fortunately, one of the guests, Ms. Lelani Carver, was able to capture the evenings festivities and destruction for posterity.

Antique Square and SL9B

Have you heard?  This year's celebration of Second Life's anniversary, SL9B, is run for residents, by residents.  Aptly, this year's theme is Community.

Thaddeus and I have sent in the paperwork to apply to have an exhibit for Antique Square at this exciting event, and for the past few days we've been hashing out our build plan.  I don't want to give away too many spoilers as to what we've got planned, but I will say that we plan to call the exhibit, "In the Good Old Summertime".  I'm hopeful that it will be get attention of people who may not otherwise have visited Antique Square before, and that it will provide the kind of unique and unforgettable experience they'll be talking about for a while to come.

But we could use some help from you.

One of the most fun aspects of SL Birthday events is finding the best freebies.  In addition to just being a great find, a freebie for our exhibit can be a great way to introduce your products to a wide audience.  It lets people know what your shop is about, and what kind of goods can be found at Antique Square.

If you're interested in contributing a freebie prize for the exhibit, please contact me (either as Mistletoe or as Clover) or Thaddeus.

Additionally, when the festival is on (the week starting of June 18th), we would love to have our own people present at the exhibit, in appropriate attire, making guests feel welcome as they stop by.  After all, the theme is Community, and we want people to see what a friendly and inclusive community we can be.

Want to sneak a look at the work in progress?  You'll have to ask me inworld.  Like I said, I don't want too many spoilers just yet!

Lovely Day for a Stroll...

Looking for a way to pass a fine spring afternoon, perhaps with friends or loved ones?

Come to Antique Square and enjoy one of our three new horse-drawn wagon rides!

The Red tour will take you up and down the Boardwalk, pausing at its north and south ends.

The Gold tour (my personal favorite) will take you into and around our beautiful Central Park.  This one's especially recommended for wooing your sweetheart.

Finally, the Blue tour will lead you around the main road and pause (and announce) each of our local shops and points of interest.  It's the longest of the three.

Each tour is drawn by a pair of horses, and seats up to seven avatars, and it doesn't cost one red linden.

To enjoy any or all of these tours, find the sign on the main pier with a picture of a pair of horses-- just like the picture you see here at this post.  Click it, select your tour, and when the wagon appears, sit at the driver's seat to be on your way!

Spring Flower Festival Set-up Today!

Ladies and gentlemen, Friday is almost upon us, and with it the start of our three-day Spring Flower Festival! So many of our residents have had a hand in the creation of this event, and in making our Square look as lovely and festive as it does now.  We hope you will be as delighted with the result as we know we are!

Today our Cart Sale merchants begin setting up along our boardwalk.  During our festival, these merchants will offer bargains, new products, and surprises that you'll surely not want to miss!  Here's a list of who you will see (in order, from one end of the boardwalk to the other):

The fun starts tomorrow-- don't miss out!
